REVIEW

Bright Data review

The broadest product range we cover, behind the strictest KYC. What the Web Unlocker, Browser API, pre-built scrapers and residential proxies each cost.

FLAT $1.50 / 1,000STRICT KYC

Verdict

Bright Data's Web Unlocker has the most predictable price among the scraping APIs we cover: a flat $1.50 per 1,000 successful requests, rendering and CAPTCHA solving included, pay-as-you-go. It reached 97.90% in Proxyway’s 2024 report but did not take part in 2025. The residential proxies are strong but list at $8/GB, and residential access is for verified companies only.

Best for

  • Your company can pass KYC and wants one vendor for every scraping layer.
  • Mixed or unknown targets, where a flat per-page price beats tier or credit maths.
  • You need ZIP, ASN or carrier-level residential targeting.

Skip if

  • You are an individual or have no corporate email domain.
  • Your pages are mostly easy: per-GB proxies or Zyte’s HTTP mode cost far less.
  • You want the most recent benchmark evidence before buying.

Pricing at a glance

Each product has its own billing unit (prices as of October 2026):

Bright Data scraping products, pay-as-you-go (October 2026)
Product Billed per Price Free allowance
Web Unlocker successful request$1.50 / 1,0005,000 requests a month, no card

Web Scraper API record$1.50 / 1,0005,000 records a month

The first deposit is matched dollar for dollar up to $500, so $500 becomes $1,000 of balance, or about 666,000 Unlocker requests.

Web Unlocker

You send a URL; Bright Data handles proxies, browser rendering and CAPTCHAs, and you "pay only for success". The selling point is the flat rate: 100,000 pages cost $150 whether the target is a static blog or a heavily protected retailer. Per 1,000 hard pages, Zyte's browser mode costs $1.01–$16.08 by site tier, and premium proxies plus rendering cost $12.25 on ScraperAPI's $49 plan.

On easy pages $1.50 is expensive: Zyte's HTTP mode is $0.13 per 1,000 on its simplest tier, and 1,000 100 KB pages through a $4/GB proxy cost $0.40. The sensible pattern is hybrid, sending only hard domains to the Unlocker (see build vs buy).

Browser API

A hosted browser you drive with Puppeteer, Playwright or Selenium, with unlocking, CAPTCHA solving, fingerprinting and proxy management built in. At $8/GB, page weight is the bill: about $16 per 1,000 full 2 MB renders, $4 at 500 KB, $0.80 at 100 KB, and the HTTP Archive's 2025 median desktop home page is 2,862 KB. Use it to click, scroll or log in; for plain HTML the Unlocker is cheaper.

Web Scraper API

Pre-built scrapers for 800+ sites, billed per record: $1.50 per 1,000 pay-as-you-go, or the Scale plan at $499 a month for 384,000 records ($1.30 per 1,000), with 5,000 free records a month. It makes sense when your target is in the catalogue and you would rather receive structured records than maintain parsers; compare Apify's ready-made Actors.

SERP API and MCP server

The SERP API returns Google results at $1.50 per 1,000 requests pay-as-you-go, billed only for successful requests, with 5,000 free records a month and no card; the $499 Scale plan covers 380,000 requests, then $1.30 per 1,000 (as of October 2026). That is the lowest pay-as-you-go Google search price we found, which is why it gets the pay-as-you-go search pick in our AI-agent search and fetch guide.

For agents, Bright Data's MCP server exposes search, scrape-as-Markdown and browser tools, hosted or self-hosted, and every new account includes 5,000 free requests a month. Pricing beyond that is not stated in the docs overview, so check your usage before scaling up, and expect the same account verification as the rest of Bright Data.

Residential proxies

$8/GB pay-as-you-go at list price (a promo code halves it for three months); the $499, $999 and $1,999 monthly plans state $7, $6 and $5 per GB. Bright Data claims 400M+ monthly IPs in 195 countries, with city, ZIP, ASN and carrier targeting and SOCKS5; the sticky-session maximum and traffic expiry are unverified. Per 1,000 pages that is about $0.80 for HTML fetches (~100 KB), $4 for asset-blocked renders (~500 KB) and $16 for full 2 MB renders: twice the $4.00/GB market median in Proxyway's 2026 research and eight times PacketStream's $1/GB.

Proxyway's review (updated May 2026) calls the network fast, stable and large, but complex and premium-priced; its residential test data dates from March 2024 (98.96% success, 1.12 s).

KYC and compliance

Bright Data's network access docs give residential access only to verified companies after a human-reviewed KYC check. You need a corporate email (Gmail and Outlook addresses are rejected), may be asked for ID and a video call, and decisions come "within 48 hours". Expect verification on the scraping products too.

Independent evidence

Caveats on the sources: Proxyway uses affiliate links, ScrapeOps runs a paid proxy aggregator, AIMultiple is a commercial research firm.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Flat $1.50 per 1,000 successful Unlocker requests, with rendering and CAPTCHA solving included.
  • Pay-as-you-go, monthly free allowances on the scraping products, first deposit matched up to $500.
  • The widest range we cover: unlocker, hosted browser, 800+ pre-built scrapers, several proxy types.

Cons

  • The strictest KYC we cover; no residential access without a verified company.
  • Skipped the 2025 benchmark, so the Unlocker’s evidence dates from 2024.
